Founded in October 1992, Sino-American Kunming Baker Norton Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereafter abbreviated as KBN) is the first joint-venture in Yunnan pharmaceutical industries. The Chinese and foreign shareholders of KBN are Kunming Pharmaceutical Corp. (SSE:600422) and TEVA Pharmaceutical Industries Co., Ltd from Israel. Teva is among the top 20 pharmaceutical companies and among the largest generic pharmaceutical companies in the world which is specialized in the development, production and marketing of generic and proprietary branded pharmaceuticals and API (active pharmaceutical ingredients). In the latter half of year 2005, TEVA Pharmaceutical Industries Co., Ltd became the foreign shareholder of KBN by acquisition of IVAX (an US-based multi-national pharmaceutical corporation with (ASE: IVX). KBN is a high-tech, technology-intensive & knowledge-intensive and state-supported foreign-invested enterprise and has been awarded as Top Joint-Venture in Yunnan.

As the first pharmaceutical company in Yunnan which had passed GMP certification in 1998, KBN renewed the champion in 2005 to pass GMP re-certification.KBN has been famous for its specialization in antibiotics and osteoarthritis field in China. The leading products of KBN are: Amoxicillin series, Cefaclor series, Alpha D3, ARTZ, Snaplets-FR, Ribavirin Aerosol etc. Among these products, Alpha D3, imported from TEVA Corporation, Israel, and repacked by KBN, is the most widely-used active Vitamin D3 in China, and is an effective drug for preventing and curing osteoporosis and renal bone disease. ARTZ, imported from SKK Corporation, Japan is the first-choice for osteoarthritis treatment. Rivavirin Aerosol, imported from IVAX, is a reputed and well-sold product.

Meanwhile,KBN has also established long-term partnerships with other famous pharmaceutical companies of the world to import products such as antibiotics, drugs for osteoarthritis, endocrinopathy and tumor ect.KBN has established a nationwide market-driven sales network, academic promotion in hospitals and OTC sales integrated, also with exportation to Hong Kong, Macao, Southeast Asia and European countries. Located in Yunnan, the neighboring area to Southeast Asia, KBN has been active in expanding to Southeast Asia market by taking this geographic advantage, specializing in trading and project in Myanmar and in Vietnam. KBN invested in Myanmar in 2004 to build Phoenix Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. In 2005, KBN has initiated a technical transfer to set up a pharmaceutical factory and sales network in Vietnam. KBN has made outstanding achievements in the Opening-up to the Outside Strategy, which is encouraged by Yunnan Provincial Government. Therefore, KBN was invited by Yunnan Commerce Bureau as the only joint venture to attend Great Mekong Sub-regional (GMS) Forum in the GMS Summit held in June 2006.
